Some day I'm gonna fly
right up top the moon and
plant an acre of Norfolk lavender
so that it spells out these words
LOOK AT ME, I'M HERE
I'm gonna waive my arms
jump up and down, roll over and over
laughing, laughing.
All my life I've had
not one
tiny speck of encouragement
not one tiny grain of help.
Now, at last, you can really see me,
I've planted luscious lavender
on a dead world
surely I've given you
headlines in the papers
what more can I give?
You didn't even notice the humble posies
the wildflowers
I tenderly cared for and
wrung my heart over
in the back garden at home.
……
Perhaps methodical telescopes
will, in the end, locate my position:
But when a theory is finally postulated to account for the presence of Norfolk lavender on the moon
I will be long since gone.
